This feeling, of unease
of a trick missed and a gamble lost
of stuttering motion
of the leading hand drawn back
of memory, burned once twice shy
and fear’s cold embrace
and the emptiness of the unknown.
This feeling, of expectation
of opportunity grasped
of glimmering eyes, the rush in the leap
of the glory of the hunt
and fear’s adrenaline
of unknowing wonder.
This feeling, of starting something new.
